The Beginning of the Farewell Tour

We started March with the annual Arapahoe District Recognition Dinner. Dad was given a very special award for his service of the last seven years-The Noble Sage Award. As you can see, it is a walking stick, which was a great help with Dad's knee. On the 15th we left on our 2800 miles road trip. First to St George for a few days, then on to Palm Desert with Grandma McVey and Karen. The highlight of our week in Palm Desert was the Palm Springs Follies. Grandma had seen it years before, Karen and I kinda knew what it was about, but Dad was clueless and a little surprised at the show. The performers were all above 65 in age, and the oldest were in their 80's. It was really fun to see how active they all were and their fancy footwork. While in Palm Desert, we shopped, sat by the pool, went to the movies, Unknown, played games and just had a great time being together.

On Friday morning we left, in the rain, to go to San Diego to visit Charles. By the time we got to San Diego, it had stopped raining and went to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site. It was just wonderful to see and to learn about the Mormon Battalion and how after their trek from Nebraska, they stay and helped the people of San Diego build part of the city.
Dad and Charles decided to try their luck, panning for gold. They actually found "some", but with generous hearts, they put it back in the water for someone else to find. We had some great Mexican food in Old Town and drove around to see the sites.

Karen and Grandma stayed in San Diego for a few more days, and Dad and I drove north to Thousand Oaks on Saturday afternoon. On the way we stopped in Newport to see our good friend Steve Jackson. He gave us a tour of Newport starting with the Temple, which is absolutely beautiful. We got to Grandma and Grandpa Mortensen Saturday night the 26th. We went to church Sunday morning, then to Charlie and Maria's for a delicious brunch. Then on to have our family picture taken, which you will all see later. Monday night we had dinner with Jim and Sue Pulsipher and caught up with the families and plans. On Tuesday, Uncle Lee and Auntie Marj came for lunch and a great visit. On Wednesday night we all had dinner together. Here are the famous Mollett Sisters. Grandma, Auntie Janie, and Auntie Casle.
Here we all are for dinner. Dad, me, Grandma, Grandpa, Janie, Casle, Charlie and Maria. We had a great time visiting and eating wonderful Chinese food.On Thursday morning we left for home. We stopped in St George to see Grandma and then home. We had a great time visiting everyone, going to WalMarts in every city so I could look for a certain shirt a wanted, found a great quilt shop in Palm Desert that Grandma, Karen I spent 2 hours in, found some great quilt patterns, and just had a wonderful time. Next leg of the tour is in April to Houston.
