We had a wonderful Christmas Day, a very hot day for Wellington. It was 34 degrees, which is about 85. We gave each other a trip to the South Island for Christmas and left for our trip on Boxing Day, the 26th. We flew to Dunedin in the afternoon and it is a beautiful city. Just a few facts: The city was founded by the Free Church of Scotland in 1848, the name comes form Dun Eideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh. One of the two medical schools in New Zealand is in Dunedin, but most important of all, the Cadbury Chocolate factory is located there.
Dad is doing his normal thing of climbing out on a ledge to get a picture. Here he is taking one of the Otago Harbor.
The Larnach Castle was built between 1871 and 1887 by William Larnach. The castle was not known to be a happy place and fall into total disrepair until 1967 when it was restored.
Hard to see, but the while birds are Royal Albatrosses.
Lighthouse at Nugget Point. A beautiful spot that over looks the Pacific Ocean.
On of the many beautiful waterfalls on the South Island. Dad is in the blue shirt next to the person in the orange.
You have to look really closely at this picture to see the penguins, but they are there
These were one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. Huge round boulders in the ocean. There is a very scientific explanation, that I can't remember, but they are really neat to see anyway.
Another beautiful land formation, the Cathedral Cliffs.
Have to end with to most spectacular view of the trip. Whales!!! We went to Kaikoura, which means to eat (Kia), Krayfish (koura). Actually the krayfish are the size of lobsters and just as expensive and just as good.
On New Years Day we went whale watching and saw 4 sperm whale- beautiful site.
We had a wonderful trip and now have seen most of New Zealand and the beautiful landscape and the amazing wild life that are here. Dad will have alot more pictures on the mission blog soon.
Stay Watchful
