March Happenings in Wellington

,We had a very busy March.  It started with Zone Conference with all the missionaries, President and Sister Kezerian, and Elder and Sister Barton who are the medical missionaries that serve in the Pacific Area.  The highlight is always the luncheon the local ward provides.  This time the Samoan Ward made lunch.  Even though it looks like the Elders are eating first, they did let the Sisters go first. Everything was delicious. There was fish, taro, several salads, potatos, roast, and as always ice cream for dessert.

We had our monthly Senior Couples dinner in Paraparaumu, it is always fun to get together with the other couples and visit.  Starting on the left is the Shepherds from Utah, the McVeys, the Hirschi from Utah, the Patchetts, who are now back in Arizona their mission done, the Chesley from Southern California, the Overtons from St George, and the Brazzeals also from St George.

One of our favorite missionaries, Elder Bonnefoy-Jenkinson from England. It was his birthday and he happened to be in Wellington so we just had to celebrate together.  He actually went home on April 12, but would love to go to school  in Utah.

One Saturday we went, with the Overton for a little hike, or what we thought was a little hike, to the two lighthouses at the entrance to Wellington Harbor.  It turned out to be about an 8 mile hike round trip.  We first went to the lower one, then hiked up and around to the one on the hill. It was great, but a little hard on the feet.

These are our wonderful elders that serve in the Wellington area.  As you can tell they are really just boys at heart.  From the left Elders, Armstong USA, Florian USA, Finlinson USA, Mario new member, Ma'u Auckland, Windhausen Germany, Aiono Samoa. They have alot of fun together, but are really hard workers.

President and Sister Kezerian came to visit us and to have a tour of the Archives. We showed them how we process the documents and of course the most fun how to digitize them. Fiona also took them on a tour of the Archives and was able to show them an old film of the Maori Mormon Templeview Choir dated somewhere around the late 50's and also papers from the Maori Prince Tawhiao, who welcomed the Mormon Missionaries.  We had alot of fun and were glad that the Kezerains had time to visit us.

On the 20th we flew to Auckland to train a new missionary couple, the Spencers from Utah, on digitizing probates records.  We were really excited to go, because we didn't think we would have the chance to visit the north end of New Zealand. So below are a few pictures.

Ninety Mile Beach, three roads go out, but only one is paved. Ninety miles of beach and we couldn't see any one there.

Jenet and Orlo Spence from Roosevelt, Utah. Jenet is from New Zealand and part Maori, Orlo served his mission in New Zealand in the mid fifties.

We had a great March and April is turning our to be just as busy.
